Here’s the question that jump started my journey…
“Is what I’m doing today getting me closer to where I want to be tomorrow?”
It was time for a career shift…
My entire life, all I wanted to do was practice law. Becoming an attorney was one of my greatest accomplishments. Everyone in my personal life was so proud of me, and I was proud of me, too.
Then... I changed my mind.
Practicing law was no longer for me. It was time for a career shift, but, what next?
I was sure that I wanted to work in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion space because it was best aligned with my values and life's goals - and because it felt so much more purposeful.
What I didn’t know, though, was how to go about it.
Making a pivot in the middle of your professional life can be scary.
I'd put so much time, effort, and money into my profession...
And I didn't want to disappoint anyone.
Considering a drastic career change in the middle of your professional life is, well, a lot.
What if you fail?
Finally, though, after years of fighting the what if’s and the should I really’s, I took the leap. I did the work and found the courage to completely switch my career path.
And it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Now I’m using my personal experience and professional expertise to help others bring change to their lives and workplaces.
“I have not ceased being fearful, but I have ceased to let fear control me. I have accepted fear as a part of life, specifically the fear of change, the fear of the unknown, and I have gone ahead despite the pounding in the heart that says: turn back, turn back, you'll die if you venture too far..”
— Erica Jong
Even though executive coaching is a professional service I feel that getting to know each other on the more human side is also necessary to determine if we are a good fit. So...what do I like to do outside of work? Here’s a glimpse into my passions:
Volunteering: Over the years I’ve had the privilege to work with amazing non-profit organizations and have recently served as a career and resume coach for the Posse Foundation. Every interaction with Posse students inspires me.
Wellness and the Outdoors: I never thought I would say this but I’ve become obsessed with Pilates and now practice regularly. Over the past two years, I’ve also really enjoyed doing more outdoor activities: surfing lessons, hiking, bike riding, and I even completed a 5k race. While I grew up in the Caribbean, hiking and surfing lessons are admittedly a stretch for me!
Sci-Fi and Fantasy: When I'm not doing something active, I can be found binge-watching Sci-Fi and Fantasy shows. I’ll deny it if you ask, but I’m a borderline Trekkie.
Now it’s your turn. I look forward to connecting with you to learn more about you and your journey.
